Change is Scary
I didn’t know what to expect, changing jobs and shifting my focus to medical device tracking. I knew minimal about what CAREier had to offer but after just one conversation with our CEO, Ryan Bass, I knew this company was something special.
Initially I thought we were a platform that tracked medical devices and notified patients of any recall on their device. I hadn’t thought about it before, how patients were notified of recalls. I moved in January of 2021 and in May received a call from my mom. “Did you know there was a recall on your car?” How was I supposed to know? She went on to tell me that she received three letters in the mail for me stating my car had a recall on it. Had my parents completed their move before then, I may have never known. This is how I initially compared recalls. That was just my car. Then I imagined my aunt, in her sixties, who recently received a Pacemaker. Would she know if it were ever recalled? How would they notify her? I became immediately curious and that’s when I jumped in alongside our CEO, Ryan Bass.
My First Day
I spent hours watching a webinar from the Patient Engagement Advisory Committee (PEAC). During this webinar the committee spoke on how they wanted to be notified. The popular vote, by phone!
I mentioned I initially thought we were a platform that tracked medical devices and notified patients of any recall on their device. We are, but we are so much more. Data integrity, adverse event reporting, patient communication and acknowledgment, even automating patient follow-ups straight to their phone. Since joining the team I have done an incredible amount of research and knowledge building. I’ve learned the platform, as well as I’ve learned what screens all my phone applications live on. After giving demos and speaking with hospitals and manufactures, I’ve learned not only did I not know how patients were notified and tracked, but many of these hospitals don’t have a system in place, and the ones that do, it is almost entirely manual with multiple points for data entry.
I have enjoyed every moment here at CAREier. I am thankful I took this leap. The best part though, is that I get to make a change in people’s lives. There is a national shortage for healthcare workers today. They are tired and overworked. When I meet with these hospitals and manufacturers and hear how much of their time and effort is spent tracking down patients for follow-ups and notifying them of recalls, it becomes tiresome. When I can show them what the CAREier platform does and how it makes their lives easier, I can see the excitement on their face and in their voice. Referring to the PEAC webinar, I mentioned: Come talk to me! Let’s automate recalls straight to your phone. Let’s improve patient outcomes!
